Do you ever get the feeling that your life is passing you by without you getting to live it? and by “live it,” I mean experiencing life fully in all its glory rather than just existing from one day to the next. If you do, you are not alone.
Our fast-paced, modern-day lifestyles have made it almost impossible for us to enjoy our days in peace and bliss. We are always doing something or the other, always going from one task to the next. To an outside observer, we would almost seem like robots! When I was in this mode I was labelled “Android Andrea” lol
You and I both know that life is meant to be more than just worrying and working till we drop dead. It is meant to be lived, enjoyed, explored, and celebrated. Being Creative is also a belief I have as to ‘why we are here’ We all want to do this, and yet, there is always something stopping us from the inside. It’s like we are bound by invisible chains that keep us functioning as cogs in the greater machine of our civilization.
Well, let me tell you that you can break these chains and start living life the way you want. And to do that, you need to learn how to live in the present moment.
This might seem like a piece of advice that a Shaolin monk would give you. And frankly, it might seem impossible to most people at first. But millions of people around the world have trained themselves to live like this, and their lives have never been better. I can honestly speak from experience. Not that there is any resemblance to a monk when I look in the mirror, however, practice has brought me to a wonderful realm and I hope I can inspire you to start practicing.
You see, your mind is mostly either thinking about the past or the future. It is either thinking about your past mistakes and how you could have done better, or it might be thinking about your future scenarios and possible challenges in your way. These are the chains that I was talking about earlier.
If you could just move your attention away from the past and the future and anchor it to the present moment, you would automatically live a much better life. You would finally be free to do what is best for you, right here and now. This practice is known as mindfulness and human beings have been practicing it since ancient times! … and they didn’t even have ALL of the Distractions we have.
I am sure you already realize by now how important living in the moment is. It allows you to actually live your life instead of merely existing. It instills peace, serenity, harmony, joy, and bliss into your life. You are no longer filled with anxiety and a crippling fear of the future. And you are no longer held captive by your past.
This makes you appreciate life a lot more. You finally notice how much beauty surrounds you at any given moment (all of which you were simply ignoring before). The freedom you experience while living in the present is truly magical it also allows for creativity to flow, which is, totally fulfilling.
Living this way also strengthens your relationships. You are able to completely be present while you are spending time with your loved ones. You are able to make memories without any inhibitions. And you are better able to understand their needs and desires.
And don’t forget that living in the moment actually makes you more productive! As you focus only on the work at hand, you are able to do much more in much less time. This not only leads to greater fulfillment, but it also helps you realize your goals!
I could go on and on about how important it is to live in the present. But I think you have gotten the gist of it. So, take charge, and transform your life for the better. Only you can do it for yourself. As I say “If it is to be, it’s up to me.”
